Crosman Powermatic 500 Disassembly, Part 1

Having hit a velocity wall with the V-350 I decided that a slight change of pace was in order. So I dug a Crosman Powermatic 500 out of my pile of airguns.09081101
Not a bad looking rifle, with the same lines as most other Crosman air rifles of the era.
09081102
It has an inline BB magazine above the barrel.
09081103
There’s a bit of corrosion.
09081104
Power Matic 500
09081105
More corrosion. This isn’t inspiring confidence.
09081106
This is where the CO2 cartridge goes, The plastic plate which hides it is missing.
09081107
As is one forestock screw.
09081108
Time to begin by removing the buttstock.
09081109
The stock is really heavy. I believe that this is a Croswood stock.
09081110
Removing the one remaining forearm screw.
09081111
The knurled CO2 nut needs to come off.
09081112
I clamped the nut in the vise to get the punch started on the roll pin and then removed it so I could rotate it 90 degrees to fully tap it out.
09081113
Notice that the forearm isn’t lightweight like a plastic part – it only has enough material removed for the parts to fit in.
09081114
The “barrel” band holds the shoud to the stock.
09081115
I removed three screws.
09081116
And carefully separated the halves. Nothing shot across the room, which is always a good thing.
09081117
As you can see the innards are corroded and full of cobwebs.
09081118
I took a bunch of views to make reassembly easier.
09081119
Notice that the safety is missing.
09081120
Another view…
09081121
Not really that complex although I’m unsure how the mechanism works.
More to come…

I have a Powermatic 500 that is in suprisingly good condition. So far the only things Ive found wrong with it is the saftey switch is quite loose and needs a new seal in the valve. All parts ARE accounted for as far as I know. Wanted (and thought it was a pump)when i bought at auction. If could let me know where to get new seal or if someone wants to buy it please let me know.
