Crosman Breech Attempt--DOA

Update.

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later--abject project failure.  The breech hit the recycling bin a few minutes ago.  I found it impossible to use the small drill press and keep the bit on center when drilling for the barrel.   There's no current plan to make a second attempt.  Sorry 'bout that.  I was really looking forward to this one.  I'll have to regroup and come up with another project.

Derrick,

If you don't mind this to be too Captain Obvious... You just need to change the order of events and use round bars instead of square.
Drill first - I know you've got lathe - mill second. Steel or alloy Crosman breech are one of the moat common upgrades here, and people make them with only lathe, using it for milling.

Dusk,

The problem is the bed is too short on the Taig lathe to hold both the 6" work as well as a 6+" drill bit, drill chuck and tail stock. I suppose I could try it again with round stock and a 3" bit.

If I try it again, I'll borrow a larger lathe for the drilling.
