Saturday Hy-Score

As I said earlier, I'm hammered with work right now, no time for airgun projects...
Here's the Hy-Score air pistol I picked up a few weeks ago at the gun show.

In box, with papers.

At full extension of the cocking stroke.

Pellet port closed.

Pellet port open.

Looking into the grip...

The tube.

The inside of the box lid (these pics can be opened separately and should be higher res...)
The manual and flyer below...

Anyway, I hope this makes up for my lack of postings...
Oh, the pistol is about as accurate as my Webley Hurricane...but fun to shoot.

You could post a WTB ad on the yellow or vintage airgun forums, but it seems like parts don't come up often. Also check gunbroker, etc for a parts gun.

Hi Nick,

I have a Hy-Score with a cracked grip. I do have a replacement grip. Can you provide dismantling instructions for removing a Hy-Score grip? I read on the web that you remove the grip screw and the trigger guard and the grip should come off. However, the grips are glued together and very hard to spring apart. Any suggestions would be a big help.

Thanks,

Mike

I've only ever read about it myself (sounds like we've read the same things), as this is the first Hy-Score I've come across. You could ask on the vintage forum for some tips, but I think it comes down to being lucky when springing the grips apart.

When will you be doing your Hy-Score air pistol project? I have one and I would like to follow-along with the rebuild process.

Thanks,

Fred S.

The pistol works perfectly and is in great shape so I'm not going to monkey with it...

I just aqured a hy-score pellet gun, is there a special pellet that needs to be used, or am i missing a part. When trying to load a pellet in the rear chamber, it won't stay in place . it falls through the end of the barrel.

Felice Luftschein said...

Sounds like you are using a .177 caliber pellet in a .22 caliber Hy-score, which would mean it falls through the barrel. .22 pellets are a little harder to find but should be available at most sporting goods stores.

acording to th stamp on the gun,it is .177 not .22, could it be mismarked.

It's possible it's the type that has interchangeable barrels - is the end of the barrel knurled? Ir even missing the barrel insert. But hard to say without seeing some pictures.

I have a target modEl and was wondering why my pellet fell out when I tipped my gun downwards. Any help???

What caliber is it? If you tried putting a .177 cal pellet in a .22 cal pisto, then that's the problem.

If that's not it then I have no idea.

Mark,
I don't know when yours was produced. I haven't seen much about serial numbers and production dates on them.
Mark & Mhquietbull,
The value can vary depending on condition, whether they have box & papers, etc but generally between $50-$300 depending on model, caliber, etc...The Blue Book of Airguns has more detail, you can look it up on the internet I think.

Hi Felice and Nick, I was really helped by the winchester 353 post. I need a new seal as mine was disintegrated. Looks like leather. Do you know where to get one. Is neoprene or something an alternative?

Hi Felice and Nick,
I also have a HY SCORE 800. It is missing the catch and catch pin. Do you know where I can look for one or can you send me a picture for fabricating one? Thanks Lance

Felice Luftschein said...

Try JG Aiguns possibly for the Hyscore 800. For the 353 if the seals are leather you'll have to make new ones. Otherwise you can get replacement urethane seals from Air Rifle Headquarters.

What we need is a modern Hy-Score 800,one great air pressure.

I received my Hy-Score SN 836050, from mygmy many years ago. The return spring for the trigger has gotten out of position and I don't know what the required location and orientation is. Any hints in how to install it?
