Daisy Model 188 BB Pistol Disassembly, Part 1

I've been a bit busy lately but decided it would be fun and quick to take apart my Daisy model 188 BB pistol and see what makes it tick. Mine is the metal bodied but BB only version.

The pistol.

The loading port, you can see the BBs being picked up by the bolt here. On the earlier model you could also insert a pellet but the casting was changed to prevent that.

4 screws, 3 of which are identical.

The halves separated.

The sear was heavily crusted with dried grease. Note the spring.

The bolt. The tip is a magnet.

The cocking lever slips off of the post and the wire rod.

That wire rod opens the bolt when the pistol is cocked.

The sear and trigger.

The wire rod.

The compression tube, spring and lever can be removed as a unit. It's under a bit of tension inside the pistol even uncocked.

The piston slides out of the tube.

The end of the compression tube is injection molded plastic and also has the transfer port seal.

The piston seal. Pretty much conventional parachute type seal.
More to come...

  1. Dude, I could use some help. I took my 188 apart, but I have a spring that jumped out, and now I don't know where it went inside the gun. I know there is a spring inside the bolt mechanism, and that there is a spring inside the safety, but I have another spring that is a little bit larger than the safety spring left.

  5. Have the same problem that Fred
had on 29 April 2010. I have no
clue where that little spring goes.
I think it may be used to keep
    tension on the cocking lever.
    Help please.

  7. The larger spring is indeed the spring that goes by the cocking lever. I was confused as to where the second smaller spring with the ball on the end went. You helped me so this is the least I could do. Cheers!

  8. If you go to the Daisy website and click on the Contact Us button on the left side you can fill out the customer service form and request an exploded parts diagram and they'll email you a copy.

  11. hopefully you found what it was for , if it's real small could be the safety spring , or the spring that's for the pump lever

  12. Hey guys, the spring is simply akeeper that goes between the barrel housing just under the cocking front screw. It just sits in the set between both halves and gives a little click when the
    leaver closes

  17. I found one of these for a couple bucks at a yard sale, problem is (after learning how to take apart and put together) that it's missing the magnetic firing pin... Am I shit outta luck? Anyone know how to get a new one?

  19. Dude I have this small little plastic thing that's black and shaped like a mushroom almost. It fell out and now I don't know where to place it

  20. I actually have two of those tiny black mushroom pieces that also fell out when I just took the gun apart. It looks like they might fit in the end of a spring(s)?

  21. I know this is over a year old, but if anyone else needs help...

The two plastic "mushroom" shaped pieces fit in the end of the smaller springs. One holds the safely button in place (not shown in pic), and the other keeps tension on the bolt when side cover is in place. However, I notice the pic here shows a bearing on the end of the bolt spring, but in my case it's platinic. I think this may be a difference between the pellet/BB and BB only version.

I ended up here to figure out where the larger spring goes. Now I know... Thank!
