Just a bit more butchery.
As you can see the rear sight was broken.
The parts removed. The actual sight blade was missing.
I used a razor saw to cut off the remaining body.
It's interesting a hole is there.
Used files to get it mostly smooth.
Mounted a Williams sight. I'll probably keep the scope on it but the Williams sight looks semi-original.
The end of the barrel shroud was chewed up so I chucked the whole thing in the lathe.
There was plenty of material so I removed a bunch of the damage.
That circular remnant was removed with a countersink.
The barrel got a shot of Krylon plastic paint.
Looks much better.
I used some steel wool on the stock and gave it a coat of Tru-Oil. Nothing fancy.
I think it's interesting that there's a cutout you can see the bolt lug through.
All done. It's a fun plinker but the plastic shroud around the straw barrel is too flexible for my taste. If I ever want a project I'll replace the shroud with a drilled out rifle barrel, but I doubt that day will ever come.
Wow, Nick that was a great job! And on such a classy looking gun. I love seeing what you can do with your equipment.
ReplyDeleteNice job! What kind of paint would you suggest using on the trigger guard and other metal parts? I just purchased one of these and need to touch up things to make it look really nice.
ReplyDeleteAny quality enamel paint works, prep is important, clean and degrease, give it a shot of primer and one or two coats of paint.
ReplyDeletehi nick, i have the exact same gun but when i put an air tank in, all of the co2 leaks out the barrel. i think that it has something to do with the valve asembly. any ideas?
ReplyDeleteSounds like it needs a cleaning and new seals.

How did you mount the Williams sight?
ReplyDeleteI am re-doing and wonder how you mounted Williams sight..would appreciate your help..thank you
ReplyDeleteIIRC, I just tapped the plastic for the mounting screws as one would do with any aftermarket iron sight.
ReplyDeleteThank you...wasn't sure ...could u tell me which sight u used and also if a Crosman 38 seal will fit. Forgive me but I am a newbie and love older airguns.
ReplyDeletePiercing pin seal yes, not sure on the valve seal, never looked at it closely. Best to ask on the Crosman or vintage forums.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your help
